- Wesley was known as an open-air preacher, and his favorite place to preach was Gwenapp Pit, a natural amphitheater where he preached 18 different times. The Torchlighters: The Robert Jermain Thomas Story features the story of Robert Jermain Thomas, considered the first martyred Protestant missionary to Korea. Thomas risked everything to bring the light of God into Korea, then a complete hermit kingdom because of the nation’s isolationist policies.
